I know this just came out but when I try to preview sounds from the right side view, I get nothing. With Tonalic loaded as a insturment track, preview works. Any ideas why? This was in a blank session.
We must have been posting at almost the same time. I posted on the same issue with a bit more information on what I tried on the troubleshooting front:
It simply doesn’t work, it must be a bug. The preview works from Tonalic as a track plugin and it also works in the standalone application.
The other problem with the right side panel is you can’t see all the metadata about the different pieces. You need that to know enough about the clip to decide to use it. Basically the right panel is all but useless for me
The other problem I see is we only get guitars. I don’t want to seem ungrateful, but I’d rather have less guitars a some samples of other instruments to get a better feel for the whole product.
See the post I’ve marked as a solution (though it is really just a workaround) in my post on this topic:
Bottom line is it doesn’t work with the 64-bit floating point engine, so it’s necessary to switch to the 32-bit floating point engine while using Tonalic until they resolve this bug (or limitation).
One thing I found is I really needed to expand the width of the right zone to see the information I wanted to see. Since I usually have the right zone closed altogether, it isn’t a problem for me to have the wider width when using Tonalic (and I can always close the left zones if I need a little more space for that specific context).
Also, if you haven’t already seen it (e.g. from the post I made on this topic), I can highly recommend watching the video on getting started with Tonalic in Cubase/Nuendo, as I learned a key thing I had not gotten from the marketing video, specifically with respect to the lower zone aspect – I’d thought the right zone was replacing the usual lower zone ARA editor, but it turns out both are used here.
I can understand that concern. I suspect the limitation here is commercial due to the free version, where use of the parts doesn’t get paid like with the paid services, thus only having parts from a single player. They do have a first month price of $1 USD before having to pay the higher monthly fees for the other tiers, so that could be a way to audition the rest at a pretty reasonable price if you are considering a subscription.
For me personally, my main interest was actually for guitars, especially rhythm guitars, as I’ve used many virtual guitar products over the years, and there are always some significant tradeoffs in terms of the amount of programming versus playing versus realism versus fitting what I have in mind. Whereas I don’t have the same degree of challenges with building believable drum tracks with the Toontrack stuff, playing left-hand bass on a keyboard with virtual basses, or even doing fingerpicked guitar parts from a keyboard. Thus, starting off with only guitars, versus some guitars, some basses, etc. was ideal for me.
I appreciate all your effort on this post, but for me: too many workarounds, too many limitations, I am a guitar player so that’s the last thing I need (lol), and a “subscription” based product. All this adds up to “I’ll pass” on this.
I kinda wish Cubase would spend more time on their own product advancements rather than crippled integrations.
Can I remove the whole thing I wonder?
From a user in another thread, my understanding is that if you don’t have the Tonalic software installed, you also won’t have the right zone tab for it. So you could probably uninstall it via Programs and Features (for Windows, or whatever is the equivalent on Mac).
