This is my new music video — and first independent song release to the public. It’s called Too Big To Fail and you can watch all 7 minutes of it here:
Cubase was invaluable for organizing my backing vocals, where I made use of both its alignment and pitch correction features. The fact that these are included as stock in Cubase is one reason why I’m now working with Steinberg software. The generous sales prices don’t hurt, either. I also used WaveLab 12 for delivery
Thanks, Early21. I was hoping to release this two years ago, but then life happened. But it’s better now because of it. Moreover, the problems addressed in the video are things we will always have to contend with, so the message is timeless in that regard.
I’m surprised at the number of people I’ve met who are severely tired of dealing with politicians instead of social and economic issues. Good luck with your campaign.
Thanks for the kind words, BJ_Dobbs. There are a few things I may tweak in the mix at some point, such as bringing the cymbals down ever so slightly and maybe pushing the vocal up even more. However, the video has the lyrics written out in time with the vocal, so I felt that if any word got lost in the mix, it would be seen. On that note, I still don’t know half of what Steve Tyler was singing about on those early albums.
And yes, what I was talking about is a form of direct democracy. Apparently there are three places where it is currently practiced: two small towns in Switzerland, I believe, and among the indigenous Crow nation in the USA. That’s it. And my video clearly shows why — for those in power, there’s too much to lose by sharing that power with the people.
But I think we’ll get there…eventually. One day sanity will prevail. In the meantime, I gotta make videos.
Very colourful track, plenty to like about it. The toms sound a little too loud in the mix to me, but the generally that kit totally suits this track. Everything really well played and produced, good stuff
Thanks, Chubs. A friend of mine commented on the toms being a little too loud as well. I’ve had comments from several people who liked the track but also pointed out an instrument/voice level they had an issue with. Ironically, none of them agreed on the same thing. Well, till now. Toms are now in the lead.
This is actually my first “serious” mix and I’m just glad I got it out the door and that I feel good about listening to it. Geddy Lee says that he cringed after some album releases as he thought certain mixes could be better. I suspect he’d tell me that the bass needs to come up a bit.
On the bright side, you have a chance to experiment with some of the amazing audio production tools in Cubase and help others by sharing your progress while you polish your song. I wish more people would do that.
Keep those amazing songs coming!
Thanks again, BJ_Dobbs. I have a number of songs that I’m considering for my next release. All have equally challenging “BEN HUR”-like production demands musically. I guess I’m stuck with this over-reaching work ethic…no turning back.
And yes, on the bright side, I look forward to doing an entire song project in Cubase or Nuendo this time. I also feel much better promoting Steinberg-related products because the atmosphere here feels far more friendly than with most of the competition. Not that it makes a difference in how a song eventually sounds, but it just feels better being here; more civilized.
Yo Ro, the support here is noteworthy. Actual devs respond to questions quickly and respectfully. That goes a long way with me. Cubase is powerful and feature packed. Dom Sigalas once said, if I recall correctly, a creator choosing only one Steinberg product should start with Cubase because there’s so much in it.
I hope you keep this community up to date with samples of your work. It’s enjoyable to hear what folks are doing with Steinberg tools and sharing thoughts.
Will likely share some things, although I think we’re all a little shy about showing something that we know isn’t ready for public viewing yet. It’s kind of like leaving the house in your underwear.
