On cubase 12 pro (windows 11) I regularly need to refresh the MIDI settings for track controls by going into settings and reassigning the MIDI channel. Midi control of track controls rarely seem to work when a new project is opened, without going into settings, even if it looks correctly configured. Any idea why, and how I can get this to work more smoothly?

Do you save the project as CPR or MID file? Do I understand you right, you have to change the Channel in the Inspector?
Either change the channel or refresh the MIDI ports. It can happen when I load a new project (.cpr) or at other times - it’s quite unpredictable.
