I find when I create a new bunch of tracks and arrange them in order, i.e., by number, that even though I have interacted with them in some way, such as by clicking on them and dragging them to a slot in the track list; that unless I actually do something, e.g., by selecting Musical Mode for each of the newly created tracks, what happens is, I am unable to use the Arrow Keys, to navigate the track list.
This has always been an issue, which hampers my workflow when creating multiple tracks at once and integrating them into a project, including moving data from MIDI tracks to Instrument tracks and finding equivalent automations.
Moreover, the lack of being able to name all newly created tracks, except for the initial track, as generated by the New Track dialog, is forcing me to engage in rather slow routines during my work and I think the program can be improved.
Being able to set linear or musical mode for newly created tracks, would also be a great assistance to workflow.
I can’t confirm this behaviour. I can navigate through the track list right away via arrow up/down keys. Which key commands are assigned to your arrow keys? What OS are you on? Do you use a MIDI Controller?
What exactly do you want to do? There are several options.
What would this feature look like? Maybe PLE can help, there are a number of presets which can be used as a starting point.
There’s a difference between linear/musical timebase and musical mode.
If you are referring to musical timebase then have a look at your preferences, please:
Edit > Preferences > Editing > Default Track Time Type >> musical timebase.
I don’t have any key commands assigned but it always is and has been the case, and the behaviour is also inconsistent between projects, that is different track types will be skipped, when using arrow keys, i.e., up and down.
I was using a multi-timbral workstation, for orchestral sounds. Now, I am using single instances of instrument tracks, which changes how automation works, that is I am using proprietary controls, rather than standard MIDI CC’s so I am copying automation data from tracks to parts.
The New Track dialog does not have an option to name multiple tracks at once, only the first track and nor does it allow you to specify the timebase so while there may be a preference, preferences can be deleted.
Just some small things, that could be improved or elaborated on but as for the DAW itself, it works well but I will come and express what issues I have and to take one example, the first one; this has been happening ever since I have used Steinberg DAW software, on all systems that I have tried. I am on Panther Lake now, but I have not tried Mac.
You can assign a key command to switch between Linear and Musical mode for track creation and then use that key command with the track creation dialog window open:
can you post a screenshot next time you notice inconsistent behaviour with arrow keys, please? Just a FYI: The page up/down keys skip tracks depending on the number of tracks displayed in project window.
(Re-) naming multiple tracks: You forgot to mention what this future option should look like and offer apart from being more convenient than the existing ones. Maybe what you are looking for is already doable in Cubendo?
Copying automation data: there have been major improvements over the past Cubendo versions. Which Nuendo version are you on?
There’s musical/linear timebase and then there is musical mode. I already adressed that slip in my first reply. However, I assumed @emotive referred to timebase since he mentioned musical/linear in one go and suggested a solution.

@Reco29, I did review your link regarding “timebase” vs “mode.” I believe @emotive was talking about “mode” as was mentioned in the quoted text above. I was only suggesting a temporary solution that may be of help. I use that key command often to switch between modes before creating tracks; it’s handy.
I’m afraid there is no such thing as linear mode that’s why I think it’s about timebase.
If you press your key command - do you see the icon in your track header toggle between a note and a clock (musical & linear)? That would be time base.
A change of mode is indicated in the info line or the pool (on & off).
I may be mixing up some of the language by using the word “mode”; apologies.
If you hover over the the toggle timebase button on a track, a little pop up says “switch timebase between Musical and Linear”. I believe this is the “linear” @emotive was referring to. That key command will change what setting that button is switched to by default when creating a new track (just as if you went into preferences and changed it before hand).
Sorry if you got the impression I was trying to debate, I was not, haha! I definitely don’t want to start any trouble. Just want to share things that may be of use to others and help if I can.

I had to look up the concepts of musical timebase and musical mode for years until I finally remembered which one is which. Like everybody else, I guess
Yes, well the first thing to note is, in relation to these concepts, the fact of Musical Mode only pertaining to files in the Media Pool, which in turn pertain to acidised .wav files.
Linear timebase versus musical timebase is simple, with the latter, events follow tempo, whereas in regard to the former, events are static and remain in place as recorded or imported, and do not change unless their time is warped or rippled.
I came up with mnemonic back then, it goes like this:
A base is a start position. It’ s either musically and therefore in bars & beats or it stays linear in seconds.
The word Mode also means fashion in German: either you follow the Zeitgeist by squashing and stretching the length of your trousers, skirt, etc (musical mode on) or you ignore it and keep everything as is (musical mode off).
It’s a rather silly mnemonic, I know. However, it helped me memorizing the concepts
The thing about this, is previously it was Musical Timebase, that was the default for track creation and at some point, it changed, so while there is the ability to shift notes after the fact, If I am creating, for example an Instrument Track, then why would I want that to have a Linear Timebase, in the first place?
Therefore, I believe a feature needs to be made whereby users can choose.
About navigation, not only do some tracks get skipped when navigating up or down the tracklist, often navigation stops and it doesn’t matter how many times you click on a particular track, or tracks you cannot navigate over it, unless you close and re-open the project.

I have never experienced anything like that at all. I also use additional key commands to navigate through track lists. Everything works flawlessly.
Have you checked your preference settings with regard to navigation?
If Nuendo still displays this irrational behaviour I suggest to rename your preference folder with a preceding “X_” (also other preference folders down to two versions prior to your current version). Are you familiar with this procedure?
I am open to trying anything but bear in mind this is a fresh installation of both the OS (Windows 11) and the DAW (Nuendo 15), and this problem has been occurring since from when I have first started using Steinberg DAW’s, including Cubase prior.
I just think it is due to track creation taking place at any point in the track list, with the latest tracks not having been (yet) allocated a slot in the node tree.
I am only bringing it up now because I have time to explain it. I am using a Panther Lake NUC, with a PCIe 5 NVMe drive and LPDDR5 RAM so the system is very fast. There is no GUI lag to speak of, and generally the program is stable, with the occasional plug-in crash.
This problem is more of an annoyance than anything, but it has been with me for decades.
