When I import all the tracks from an existing project into a new empty project in 10.5, the automation is copied across, but it is not turned on (set to R) in the new project. Does anybody else experience this?

It is actually specified like this. See manual, please:
The track settings for read/write automation status, record enable, monitor, muting/soloing, and visibility are not imported from other projects.
