I have FINALLY been able to reproduce this bug that has plagued me for years and I haven’t been able to pinpoint.
Steps to reproduce:
- Enable “Track selection follows event selection”.
- Enable “Enable Record on Selected MIDI Track”
- Activate “Count In”
- Add 2 x MIDI or Instrument tracks.
- Record some MIDI (CC or Notes) on Track 1 and Stop.
- Select the newly recorded Part.
- Select Track 2 and press Record.
- Record something during count in.
- Observe that Track 1 (that has the event selected) is activated, and the recorded material ends up on that track instead of Track 2.
- Do point 6-7 again, but don’t record anything during Count-In, instead way until count-in has finished.
- Observe that the recorded material ends up on the indended track.
“Record in editor” on/off doesn’t make any difference. Neither does having the key editor open or closed.
Expected Behaviour:
If “Track Selection Follows Event Selection” is active, even if a Part is selected on another track than the active track, it should not automatically select that track when recording something during count-in. If that was intended by software design, then it would be logical that even if the cursor started moving, it would select that track. Which is doesn’t.
Among the long list of bugs I’ve reported, this one is the most annoying one, and I hope Steinberg makes a priority of fixing this both in Cubase and Nuendo. This has slowed me down about 5-10% since it constantly selects the wrong track when using “track selection follows event selection”, which at least for me is mandatory for an efficient workflow.
WORKAROUND: Replace “Record” shortcut with a macro consisting of:
- PLE flow deselecting all selected parts
- Transport - Record
This doesn’t seem to affect “Record in Editor”-function if the track with the selected part is recorded.
