Trackdelay in Automation

Hello Cubase forum, hello forum users.

I have a question and hope there’s already an answer!
Unfortunately, my search using keywords didn’t turn up anything relevant.

Topic:
Integrating Track Delay into automation.

Question:
Is there a way to include track delay for audio data/samples/instruments (not MIDI) in automation?
By default, this isn’t possible!

Why:
Changing the track delay on a created instrument or audio track only makes sense if you want to fix a timing issue or move the take along the timeline.

If I duplicate an existing audio track—duplicating Channel 1 to Channel 2—and then pan Channel 1 to the left and Channel 2 to the right, I get the exact same result as before the duplication.
However, if I now adjust the track delay on one channel to +/- 0–200 ms, I get a phase shift and a completely different stereo angle and sound!
If this very interesting effect could be automated, it would allow you to create sounds that can’t be produced easily otherwise!
I also haven’t found any plugin that can create this effect.

Setup:

1.) Audio or instrument track (stereo/mono)
2.) Duplicate track 1
3.) Pan track 1 to the left
4.) Pan track 2 to the right
5.) Play tracks 1 and 2 and adjust the track delay of one track—for example, track 1—by +/- 0–200 ms

Isn’t that brilliant? This has created a completely new way of controlling sound—it works well even when used statically, but it’s most effective when automated…

What do you think? Old hat, or worth considering?

Best Regards
