Tracking question

Once I’ve set the input gain and am getting a healthy level in cubase does bringing down the track fader (for monitoring/mix purposes) effect the recorded signal in anyway. Folks say to leave the fader at 0 whilst tracking, however sometimes this is way too loud when you have the whole mix playing

As you have been told here already:
-Input channel fader controls record level
-track fader controls monitor level
That´s how it is, and how it will stay in the foreseeable future

Just in case of confusion, I believe input channel faders are available only in full versions of Cubase. OP has Artist. Only your interface preamps control the input level.

Anything in Cubase after that is controlling the monitor level of the recorded track. Not the level of the signal being recorded.

Fader away!
