Transfer target and History list

I use Transfer a lot, both to transfer to my own created trash layer - or between layers. My problem is that SpectraLayers keeps changing the Transfer target layer that I have set up, and then I have to scroll through the history to find out when I went off track, and start from there again… I really wish it would be fixed…

For version 12 I also want a small change in the history list to make it easier to read. There should be an indication of which process referred to which layer..

It could be a shortened version of the name of the layer, or a small colored ring with the same color as the layer.

I believe in Santa Claus every June…

“it”?

I don’t understand what you mean. Do you mean fixed because something is broken? Or Fixed as in to be able to lock to a target layer?

I used to struggle with this, until I started juggling layers in the layers panel.

SL11 always sets the target to the top-most layer in the currently selected group in the layers panel. The only exception to transfer target layer=top is when the source layer is the top-most layer. If the source layer is the top-most layer in a group, then the target layer becomes the second layer.

I found using the drop-down list of layers in the tools settings area I would make far too many mistakes. Using the juggle method is a lot of mousework, but very much helps me keep track of source and target layers.

I do like the way this works; I would very much not appreciate having to set a fixed layer in another step, the way it works now is excellent for me.

I hope that helps

I (almost always) create a “throw-a-way” layer that I place wherever I find it most logical at any given time in SpectraLayers. Then I point to this layer in the (Transfer) Target. Usually SpectraLayers will remember this target, but once in a while it forgets it and points to the top layer. May be it’s somthing I do, but I would like SpectraLayers to remember the last selected target layer.

I agree with you that it is wise to adapt to the program, but I am an old man, and often fall back into old habits and expectations.

So - - I would hope that Robin can see my two suggestions as useful options…

Peace
