I have a huge template that was all built in Kontakt 6, that want to use now in Kontakt 8.
When I change the pluginID in the endpointconfig.xml it does manage to change the Kontakt version, but it does not load the sample library. Did I miss something along the way to make this process a little easier?
Dorico doesn’t seem to support the auto migration at the moment, unlike Cubase, from my testing. Especially since NPPE was discontinued and some users are moving things to direct Dorico hosting, it would make things significantly easier for some if the Kontakt auto migration worked (which involves something called IPluginCompatibility).
@dspreadbury is there any possibility of getting this added? It could make things significantly easier for Dorico users as far as different versions of Kontakt are involved. Playback templates with auto-loading made on Kontakt 6 and 7 won’t currently load properly on Kontakt 8, etc.
yep – if I upgrade from Kontakt 7 to 8 at some point, then I’ll need to redo all my projects which is a pain. I noticed as well that in Cubase the auto-migration does work. No idea of course whether this is something that can easily be ported from Cubase to Dorico – only the team will know how feasible it is but it would certainly be very helpful.
that goes without saying but I really don’t want more than one Kontakt version on the PC. Normally users want only the latest version of any specific software on their system (assuming there are not serious bugs and it’s compatible obviously). It also goes without saying that libraries only support the past 2-3 Kontakt versions at best so an update is required sooner or later.
It is not only that - playback templates made by other users may have certain very specific Kontakt configurations that need to be loaded, and it should ideally be possible for those to load in a newer version than the one they were made in.
