Looks like I was mistaken - though I’ve never used C13Pro, I have apparently downloaded and activated it, accoding to the Steinberg Activation Manager.
How can I tell what date I activated C13 Pro (so I can determine whether it was before or after October 8, 2024, the Grace Period cutoff date)?
Open the Activation Manager, click on the Profile Icon un the upper right Corner and select the Menü Item “Check for Grace Period”. That tells you If you are eligible for a free Update or not.
Thanks, I did that, and apparently I’m not eligible for a free Cubase 14 Pro in the Upgrade Period, because it wasn’t mentioned at all in the SAM.
But I’m confused because before SAM checked to see if I had a free Grace Period upgrade it said it would “check if any of your e-Licenser based applications are eligible for a free update …”.
My Cubase 12 Pro is not e-Licenser based, so that doesn’t seem relevant at all! As such, I’m less than completely confident SAM is answering correctly when I ask of I’m due for a free Grace Period update from C12 Pro.
BTW, I also logged into mysteinberg and checked the Voucher section to see if I had a voucher for a free upgrade to C14, as recommended by Steinberg (somewhere!), and it did not mention any C14- related items.
I guess I’ll just have to pay the $$99US upgrade fee, but Steinberg’s messaging in its apps (Activation Manager, as above) is sure written poorly IMO.
I just found in mysteinberg>Products that I activated C13 Pro on 11-24-2024 … so I should be eligible for a free upgrade to C14 Pro as far as I can tell … would that be correct?
If so … I don’t understand why I can’t find that info anywhere on the Steinberg website? Or how to get C14 Pro without paying US $99.99!
No. Surely you remember doing it yourself, since it was just last week. The date displayed there is the date you activated it in your SAM, where it has been listed since you redeemed the DAC, and not the purchase date or the install date.
Only if you want to buy and use the product of course.
Here’s what the support site says now and it’s pretty, pretty clear.
I agree that there was confusion due to the use of the term Activation. It should only be Redemption.
I have one more thing to say about this –
This software is very inexpensive once you own it. Updates have cost the same in dollar amount for decades, yet inflation has continued. In the USA, so in real terms the price has dropped by 50% or so.
The software is amazing and does more than any single user can even take advantage of, it accommodates engineers, composers, and musicians, and other professionals who have wildly different levels of expertise and just as varied needs for different functions.
Not so much IMO, I think there is confusion caused by Steinberg’s terminology.
Yes, that’s what I mean.
This may be true (I happen to agree with it), but it seems off topic; I wonder if it would be better if all that were broken out into a thread of its own.
I took my computer out of mothballs last week (late November, 2024) and did a fair amount of updating. Though I didn’t mean to, I may have inadvertently activated/redeemed (whatever the correct term is) Cubase 13 Pro then. Either way, I’ve never used it, and that was after the October 8, 2024 deadline for a Grace Period free upgrade to C14 Pro.
I appreciate your trying to help me understand why I wouldn’t be eligible for a Grace Period free upgrade to C14 Pro, @steve , I’m just not putting it together that way.
Hi Alexis,
one final try to explain - I understand your frustration. But please understand:
You bought C13 sometimes in the past. If you bought it online back then check your e-mails with a search filter. That was the day you bought it and received a Download Access Code. Now, THAT one is the only one that matters grace period-wise. That one was redeemed leading to an activation code lying around in your Steinberg account ever since.
