Transpose

I have an arrangement in Gb major, modulating to G. My customer wants it half a tone higher, so G modulating to Ab. When I use SHIFT+OPTION+UP every second note becomes a double flat or worse. Dorico wouldn’t let me transpose by a minor second up. It lets me transpose an augmented unison up, but then the G-part becomes G# and not Ab, resulting in 6 sharps and a double sharp at the clef. What can I do to make it into Ab?

Dorico won’t do a minor second up for the whole piece, because a minor second up from Gb is Abb.

Your best bet is probably to transpose each section independently. You can select the Gb section and transpose up an augmented unison, which will put it in G. Then select the (original) G section and transpose up a minor second to Ab.

Thanks, I’m gonna try that. Problem is it’s difficult to select the Gb-part and selecting the chords in it as well.

If you make your selection with the system track, then chord symbols will be included.

There’s also a command in v6, Add Chord Symbols to Selection, which does just what it says. You can invoke this from the jump bar, or you can assign a key command to it if you use it often.

That is extremely helpful! (And offtopic, I’m sorry) On topic: Dorico won’t let me tick the box “Transpose key signature” at the G (going to Ab) part.

Is the key signature included in your selection?

I was to late editing my post. That was the problem exactly. Thanks!
