I did a score for my big band and after the first rehearsal my vocalist requested that I lower it a minor 3rd. I can lower it, but every time I do it and select change the key signature it changes the notes but doesn’t change key signature and my chords symbols change incorrectly.
For example: the tune is in Eb, the first chord is an Ebmaj7. When I transpose, the notes change and the first chord changes to a Cm7 instead of the Cmaj7 I expect. The only difference is the key signatures do not change. When I go back to the transpose menu, Change Key Signature is not selected.
To transpose everything, it’s best to do a system select (using the system track, which is toggled using alt/opt-T) - that will select all system objects like chords and key signatures in addition to the notes.
I tried the system select and no change. I have Transpose Key signatures checked and it still doesn’t change the key signatures. In fact after the “key change” I select “Transpose” again and the “Transpose Key Signatures” is de-selected.
In Write mode, I do Ctrl+A, which is Select All on Windows (Cmd+A on Mac?).
Then I do Write > Transpose and set the options as in the image I posted above. When I click OK, everything appears to be transposed as I would expect.
That did it. I think I wasn’t going back and rechecking the “Quality” drop down after selecting “Third”. To me, they are out of order…you should select Interval then Quality.
I think it’s tricky. We say “minor third”, so it makes sense to display things in that order, but the Interval selection determines what’s available in Quality.
