I realise that this has been covered before but I still can’t find a solution which works for me. I have a piece which changes key on numerous occasions. This includes E and B major and for Bb transposing instruments it would be more readable for the players if the resultant transposed key signature were Gb major or Db major rather than F sharp or C sharp majors. I think I can find a way of overriding the defaults for the whole piece but not for shortish sections. Am I missing something?
If you get C# instead of Db, you could start by enabling this option in notation Options > Accidentals > Transposition:
Then you could try to make a Clef and Transposition Override for this layout, in which you replace Bb3 by A#3:
For the KS you are talking about, this should work. For the other ones, check if it’s OK for you, but I think so.
Thank you. That works (except I found I had to disable prefer enharmonic equivalent rather than enable it. The only thing is that A maj now shows as C flat maj in the transposed part for which the players may not thank me! Is there any way of isolating certain sections, do you think (other than creating additional flows?)
Out of curiosity, which KS makes you prefer to disable it?
I don’t think so, unless by changing the original KS with a local KS, but it’s maybe not a good idea!
By keeping the option enabled, I get these two results, with and without the override. Do neither of them totally work for you? Ïn both cases, A major shows at B major, not Cb. The only difference is E major: sharps (F# maj) with the default transposition, and flats (Gb maj) with the override.
I’ve just realised I never wrote to thank you for your help, Charles. I’m sort-of living with the situation now although not being able to change KS enharmonically for specified periods of time within a score is frustrating. But without your help I’d have been completely lost - so thank you!
