Treasure hunting and inner staff labels

I have a setup like this (imported from XML, a total chaos, adjusting bit by bit).

It is a score for large orchestra. I have managed to set all instruments of the same kind to bear a single staff label with inner numbers next to the brackets thanks to the dedicated Layout Option.

When I initially opened this, the percussion players had forced names like “Percussion 1”, “Percussion 2”, etc. I thought it to be enough to rename all four players to “Percussion” and, indeed, the grouping happened. Now, why are the numbers not appearing?

Any idea?

I think numbers only appear for staff-labels that are equal, not player names. Would be a good option, though.
