As you (Ed_Doll) described, I was able to download the Dorico direct;y, but activating it requires getting some code which, apparently, I can onlu get by successfully running the download assistant.
Steinberg has sent me messages, welcoming me to the “Dorico Family” and asking how I like it, but they have not yet answered my several messages asking how to get this friggin’ thing to work…
Sorry you’re still having problems getting up and running, @kb11. Can you check that you have Steinberg Activation Manager (SAM) installed? You can download it here:
Once you have this installed, run it and it should prompt you to sign in, which will bounce you back to your web browser. When you return to SAM, it should then show you your licenses, including your Dorico license, and you can click Activate. Once your license is activated, Dorico will run.
dspreadbury:
Thanks, I’ll try that (later, when I have more brain cells functioning…)
KB
dspreadbury:
OK, I tried it.
This initially looked promising, but - no go.
I downloaded “SAM”. It ran successfully, opening a window in which I confirmed that I wanted Dorico Pro 5 to be activated. Nothing ‘bounced’ me anywhere however - not to a browser or elsewhere. The horizontal bar in the window showed that Dorico Pro 5 is activated - that it has been so for several days in fact.
Following your suggesgtion I tried executing Dorico. It opened, but then showed me a window that says:
"An essential component used by Dorico for playback has not been found.
“This component is installed by the Dorico application installer. Please quit Dorico, run the Steinberg Download Assistant, and reinstall the Dorico application installer.”
Steinberg Download Assistant still will not run, however - goes instantly to the “not responding” status.
I have sent messages requesting tech help from both Yamaha and Steinberg. These have apparently been ignored.
It’s particularly frustrating that they offer a “chat” option, BUT!, when I select this, I have to go thru a longish process to identify myself and describe the problem I’m having - and only after doing all that I get a text back that says nobody is available - that they’re in a meeting right now, or it’s after hours, and that I should contact them another time. The info I’ve entered and text I’ve written do not get saved or forwarded for them to respond to later.
Pretty frustrating and disappointing!
This forum is by far the best place to get support directly from the Dorico team.
Don’t worry: I’m sure this will get sorted.
Since @kb11 is using an Apple Silicon Mac my eye was struck by seeing “Intel” in his Activity Monitor pic. Could this be in any way important/related to the issue?
No, the SDA is still Intel code.
@kb11, I’m sorry that it’s taken me so long to get back to this thread. The pace of new posts on the forum has been prodigious since the Finale news a couple of weeks ago.
Can you please do Help > Create Diagnostic Report in Dorico and attach the resulting zip file here, so I can see what specific component it’s complaining about?
