Hello, I am working on a somewhat large (11 instruments, 311 pages) score in a trial version of Dorico Pro 5, and everything is really laggy–selecting notes, moving things around, inputting, saving, opening my score, etc and the program crashes all the time.
I’m on an ASUS laptop windows 11 home edition with an i7 processor and 16G of RAM. I’ve installed a SDD onto the motherboard and use an external hard drive for storage.
I’ve even turned the sound off–any ideas what may be happening?
Welcome to the forum, Karl. I’m sorry to hear that the software is not running stably on your system. Could you please do Help > Create Diagnostic Report and see about attaching the resulting zip file here? You might struggle to do so if it is larger than 4MB in size (which it probably will be if you have been experiencing a number of crashes, as the zip file will include recent crash mini-dumps), in which case please consider using a service like WeTransfer to send it to me by email (you can reach me at d dot spreadbury at steinberg dot de).
Hi Dan! Thanks for the response–I’ve attached the Diagnostic Report. It’s not too big, probably because I’ve been doing the automatic send crash reports along the way.
(Attachment Dorico Diagnostics.zip is missing)
Because you’re a new forum user, you probably aren’t able to upload files. I’d email it to Daniel.
Just kidding, I misread the file size. Sending over Google Drive now.
Thanks for sending me the diagnostics, Karl. You are experiencing a crash that we’ve seen occur on a number of systems, but so far have been unable to reproduce in-house, so as yet we don’t have a fix for it. It can occur when making a selection in the score, but we’re really not sure what triggers the crash, since in general that is something that every Dorico user does hundreds of times in every session. I’m sorry for the inconvenience caused.
I wonder whether there might be a timing-related aspect to the problem, and perhaps if Dorico is struggling enough to process the selections in your project that there’s some kind of re-entrancy issue (the stack doesn’t really look like that, to be honest, but we’re sort of shooting in the dark about what the nature of the problem could be).
I’d be interested to see your project as well, if you don’t mind sharing that with me too. You could email that to me at d dot spreadbury at steinberg dot de.
Hi I’ve just downloaded the trial version of Dorico 5 pro and it constantly crashes when making selections.
I’ve tried it on my other computer too and I have the same response. So I’m not sure if it’s something I can use at the moment. I never have this problem with Musescore or Sibelius first. Dorico spec looks great and it’s something I was looking forward to trying out.
Welcome to the forum, @Mel_Nicholls. I’m sorry to hear that you’re having problems with Dorico. Could you please do Help > Create Diagnostic Report and attach the resulting zip file here, so we can take a look at the crash logs and see what’s going on?
