When I use scissors to trim out a piece of audio from one event and drag that to a new sampler track, the entire audio clip plays instead of the piece I trimmed. How do I get rid of the excess so the trimmed part is by itself?

After the cut, select the Audio Event and use the Audio > Bounce Selection command to create new audio file. Then drag this bounced file to the Sample track.
