Triplet turns 6/8 to 12/8

Just getting started with Dorico Elements 5 on Win 11 . Entered notes with mouse. When I clicked 3:2 for a 1/8 triplet suddenly a dotted half rest appears after it. I was unable to get the measure back to 6/8 so I ended up writing into a new measure and used force duration clamp and it worked. Ok I’ll just delete the 1st measure but Ha Ha. It sucks the 2nd and 3rd measure together like a neutrino having sex with a singularity or something.

Welcome to the forum, @vinnycolletti !

The red box is what Dorico calls a signpost – it indicates that there’s something going on there that you can’t see in the score.

If you double-click the signpost, you’ll see that the time signature has been entered as 6/8,12, which is a 6/8 time signature with a 12/8 pickup bar – that first bar is actually expecting 12 eighth notes.

Change this to just 6/8, and now you’ve got two empty bars at the start of the piece. Select them both, and then do Edit > Delete Bars.
