I’m trying to notate a drum groove that involves triplets shared between the hi-hats and snare drum, and I’m having trouble getting Dorico to put both instruments into the same triplet. Here’s what happens when I select the notes in the first picture and make them into a triplet:
I’ve double checked the snare and hi-hat are both designated as up-stem instruments in the percussion kit.
If you switch to the single-line instrument view for the kit, do both instruments have triplets at that position? if one has a triplet and the other doesn’t, the resulting rhythm looks rather complicated.
Percussion kits are essentially multiple separate percussion instruments condensed onto one staff - each instrument has its own separate part that you can see in the single-line instrument view.
