Dorico is simply not allowing me to make simple tuplets, whether 3:1, or 5:1. After I create them, it gives me an extra eight note rest for example (and an extra sixteenth note rest). I have tried everything. Can someone please tell me why I am getting these errors?
The first tuplet ratio should be 3:2 (three 8ths in the space of two) and the second should be 5:4 (five 16ths in the space of four).
What note durations are you using when creating these tuplets?
Hi Daniel, thank you. confusing at first
The format for tuplets is always x notes in the time of y notes, where the base is either the current note duration, or an explicit code (h, q, e… for half, quarter, eighth…). Both parts of the tuplet definition must be the same durations.
So an eighth note triplet is typically 3:2e (ie) 3 eighth notes in the time of 2 eighth notes.
If your current duration is eighth, then 3:1 will produce 3 eighths in the time of 1 eighth (which is what you got).
