**I have been struggling for over one hour to try to adjust the width in a bar horizontally so that I don’t get unwanted rests.
Hoping that someone more experienced can help me.
I am using Dorico pro 5 on a MacOS.

Hi @Minna_Mansky, to avoid having/showing unwanted rests, there are several methods, but they depend on the context (and adjusting the width of the bar horizontally doesn’t seems to be the best way to do it):
could you please share a Dorico file, to see your situation?
the width (visually) of barlines has nothing to do with whether or not there will be rests.
that is entirely dependent on how many beats are in the measure.
if you have a bar of 4/4 and only have notes on the first two beats, then you will have rests for the last two beats. moving the barlines will not alter this. the bar requires 4 beats.
