This particular layout is SATB plus Keyboard. There are several sections when there is only music for Soprano, or one of the other voices. When I enable condensing, I believe I should expect the staves for the other voices to not be shown thus allowing space on the page. Why not?
When I select cut away empty staves they staves I want to condense are removed, but the system is not condensed, which does not help me get more music on fewer pages. What do I do to get the system to condense by the same rules as “cutout blank staves”?
Hi @jim6, possibly you are confusing Condensing with Hide Empty Staves?
This latter functionality is activated in Layout Options>Vertical Spacing>Staff Visibility where you can set it for a whole layout.
If you want to control the staves visibility locally, you can use Manual Staff Visibility (which you can use in conjunction with the global Hide Empty Staves).
And finally: Cutaways will hide specific bars/staves, but the vertical staff spacing is not influenced by it.
Perhaps your SATB players are Section Players and you have not yet set Layout options>Players>Condensing… to allow section players to condense and set the custom condensing groups to SA and TB???
