Good day all. I was hoping someone could offer some assistance with markers in my project. It seems so simple but keeps throwing odd errors about time descrepencies.
I have a simple 1. & 2. repeat for the first 21 measures; all good there. It is when I add a coda where things go south.
At Bar 40 (D.S. al Coda) you should jump back to bar 23 where the Segno marker is. Then
play thru to bar 35 where the “To Coda” marker is; then jump to the Coda at bar 41.
I tried the same setup in a test project and it worked fine, there must be something wonky about this project that is causing the offset. Any help would be appreciated
Hi @Peter_Bransche, It plays as expected for me (on iPad). However, I did notice that you have a final bar line at the end of 30. That wouldn’t affect anything, though. Also, you might want to reposition the markers in Engrave mode — they seem to get lost in the chords. Maybe make the rastral size smaller, too (unless you need the larger print)!
I don’t think there is one. But common sense (and trial and error) suggests that repeat markers will act where they are placed.
(Previously there were some bugs, which have been fixed, about placing repeat jumps within other repeat structures. And there are requests for extending the capabilities of repeat jumps)
Thank you for the reply - I agree that common sense and experience working with repeats should lead. The repeats in my score are technically correct for player guidance, I will leave it as is. I only posted ot try to understand the errors.
Apologies for not testing the beats. I only watched the sequence of how the bars were played (with the sound off so as not to disturb my wife)! There was another thread earlier this year where Dorico skipped some beats but that was fixed quickly with an update. Placement is important and easily done when selecting the bar line. (However, Dorico gives you the option of choosing a different – non-standard? – placement which can be problematic since, by virtue of its length, can look correct to the user.
Thanks, Jim. I think what I may do in the future is to create a second voice as a guide for placement of repeats. I think that might to avoid improper placement and stop Dorico from throwing errors. I appreciate your input!
