I’m working on a percussion map for VSL Synchron Cabasas here and trying to use staccato and tenuto markings to playback different sound slots in the map. So far they are not working, and only play back the default note sound.
The default notes are set to the “shake” technique in the instrument playing technique editor. These notes play back correctly.
With the staccato and tenuto notes, I have tried multiple permutations of alternates in the drum map, as well as in the notehead technique editor.
As you can see in the percussion map editor, there are 4 permutations of each the staccato and tenuto to cover all combinations of playback techniques:
In the “Percussion Instrument Playing Techniques” notehead editor I have tried multiple permutations of assignments for staccato and tenuto, as well as no assignment.
In the playback test, you can see the active techniques:
“Shake + Staccato + Instrument 1” is clearly covered in the percussion map.
I also tried removing “Instrument 1” in the score leaving just “Shake + Staccato” as the active techniques, and that still does not playback the desired percussion map slot.
It seems that no matter the combinations I employ here, the staccato and tenuto markings will only play back the default “shake” sound.
Maybe that helps.
Knowing that VSL shows stacks with slots for the different sample sounds it provides, at the top you can assign, if not already, for each stack to have key switches that reference each slot. Then you add the midi number of a stack and slot in the Key Switch column for the PM of the Cabasa, or any other percussion instrument.
Hope this helps.
While I use expression maps as well, key switches are irrelevant in this case. The issue is directly with the percussion map. In this example situation the notation of the staccato and tenuto marks need to trigger the proper sound as entered into the percussion map by the linked technique.
To be clear: when you say “notation of the staccato and tenuto marks”, you are saying that using these marks from the left side menu, you don’t get the triggering of the behavior from VSL. If so, my question is: have you looked into the percussion instrument playing techniques, from the set up tab. In there, it seems to have a way to connect a notation mark with a playback technique that you’ve assigned to the VSL instrument.
