Trumpet sounds cap out at C5, but a real player can hit E6 or higher. How do I fix this?

I am trying to write for French horn and trumpet but Dorico is saying the notes are out of range, and when it gets out of range, there isn’t a sound for the note. The program limits the trumpet to C5 as the highest note, but I know a good player an hit up to E6 or higher. How do I get Dorico to play a note there? Can I add sounds using the Halion Sonic 7 software? Are there other sound libraries that I can use for Dorico? For a professional program this seems like a big oversight.

There are 2 issues here:

  1. If you care about the visual display of the red out of range notes, you can turn those off under View / Note and Rest Colors. You can also redefine the “Advanced range” for any instrument in the Instrument Editor:
  2. If you care about playback, then whatever sample library you are using must have those notes contained in the library. Some libraries are unfortunately a bit short in the extreme ranges. The HALion Sonic library that comes with Dorico even goes to the top of a piano (C8) which I don’t think I’ve even heard Jon Faddis hit. The below example plays back fine for me with the HALion Sonic Selection Playback Template.

@FredGUnn said what I was going to say, while I was typing.

I’ll add that NotePerformer, which many people use and like, uses a combination of samples and synthesis and therefore can produce just about whatever pitches you want, even if those pitches are technically impossible (like way below middle C for a flute).
