Trying to Create a macro including moving a new track into an existing folder

I am creating a macro to do these steps with one shortcut within my Cubase-Recording-template with certain existing folders and group channels:

  • create a new track using a preset, that defines the instrument etc.
  • Colour-coding, depending on chosen preset (therefore instrument)
  • assigning to a group Channel as output, depending on chosen preset/instrument
  • moving the new track to an existing folder, depending on the preset

I got all the steps working except for the last one and I can´t find a way within the PLE, that would do this, which I can hardly believe. It should be quite easy.

Has anybody got an idea if this can be done?

(I’m using Cubase 14 Pro on a Mac)

Thanks, Frank

This function doesn’t exist in Cubase.
There’s only the option to move to a new folder, which is a shame.

Thank you for your answer.

That is really a shame. I guess that would really be easy to do, I can‘t believe noone ever thought, that could be a helpful function for a smooth workflow.

Yes, several people have already requested this feature, including me, but it is not on the agenda for the moment.

This would allow you to import track archives
into a lightweight template

As a workaround, how about first selecting the folder you want using PLE, and then perform the track adding? This way, it will be created inside the selected folder.

Thank you for the workaround idea. That made me think of a way that works fine for now, even though it‘s still not what I hoped I could do.

I keep running into this, too. I don’t understand why this function isn’t available. If you can move to a new folder, you should be able to move to an existing one as a shortcut. Given that an app has a search function, which Cubase does, it’s already keeping real-time track of what’s in the project. I use Pro Tools a lot and it’s had this ability since folders became available. Frankly, there are way too many view and organizational things missing in Cubase. It’s weird. I mean, you can’t do simple stuff like resizing all of your automation tracks with one action without resizing everything else. At least, not without selecting all the automation tracks first. It’s like, really?
