(while his personal secret is using ai slop to content farm). In the past the catholic church would have him rotting in a dungeon or worse for posting that. But now it’s all good?
Or there are channels that take other popular peoples’ work, like book authors, use ai to summarize and read out their writings and post that on their channel as if that’s not pure theft.

To hear the difference twixt valve and transistor amps use your favourite guitar/guitar VSTi, write a merry melody, listen to it with no FX plugins.

My take is use valve amps for performing, transistors for playback. I assume I’m not unusual in this.

You can do that with Tone3000 and the gateway a2 Nam player for free. I think Nam a2 sound better than any emulation on the market.
When it’s cold outside, I fire up my 70s Vox AC30 tube amp. My sonic fireplace.

For me it’s tubes for playing away from the DAW. I have nothing against solid state amps, either, if that’s the sound one prefers. I just like the crude, rawness of tubes when I’m playing into an amp.
When recording, I’ll insert an amp sim on the audio track (Overloud THU or IK AmpliTube) and call it good. Then I’ll go back and tweak the settings after while mixing.
If I had the proper setup, I’d probably be trying to record a live amp. Unfortunately, that isn’t happening any time soon.
My favorite times playing guitar are still going back to a 10w Crate solid state amp when I first started around 1990. Oh, the fizzy goodness of the cranked distortion!

Yeh! My two favorite amps that I used almost every day at one point were the Roland Jazz Chorus 120 and the Fender Twin Deluxe. Two completely different sounds, but both equally interesting and enjoyable.

In the past, I’ve never fancied amp emulations. But I must admit that I enjoy playing with UAD Paradise guitar studio. Although I really don’t like UAD’s invasive update/phone home policies, these amp emulations are exceĺlent and pretty close to the real deal.
@Scab_Pickens The physical sensation of massive chunks of air being moved by a raw tube amp like an AC 30 is indeed an experience on its own. Unless you are willing to blast your monitor speakers that’s something that will remain unmatched.
My first guitar amp was an old valve radio with a single EL84 output stage. Changed my life forever.
