I just wasted 30 minutes of my life figuring out what happened to an instance of the Steinberg tuner plugin.
When mousing over it, I bumped it to Generic Editor mode which looks like this:
The only way to get it back to normal is to right click and select Switch to Plugin Editor (which makes little sense to me). Here is the normal view that I use:
Saving as a preset (in this case I called it JMM Tuner) is of no value. If it’s in the Generic Editor mode, recalling the preset (saved when in Plugin Editor mode) does not revert it to the Plugin Editor mode.
How more frustrating could this be? The best advice is to delete the plugin and re-add it. Less than 1 minute (should be just a few seconds, but need to factor in the time fumbling with the mouse etc).
Another frustrating thing is how all the plugin Windows disappear anytime I click off of the main Cubase window either to my desktop or another open application. In other words, the plugin Windows are only displayed when the computer is focused on the Cubase application. If anyone knows how to fix this please let me know!
(I’ve tried Bring to Front, but that doesn’t help. Control Room and Mixer Consoles come up in separate windows but that doesn’t help either. I am using Windows 11.)
Click the dropdown by the little camera and set it to always on top and it should stay when you click outside of it.
That is fantastic, thank you!!!
Note that Always On Top needs to de-selected (not checked). I guess its checked by default. I can’t imagine why you would ever want it to be that way.
Thanks so much!
One other thing to point out about the Generic Editor mode is that this applies to ALL PLUGINS in Cubase not just the Steinberg Tuner.
I’m surprised I didn’t mistakenly bump into this before. Good to know, something to remember.
I use that Generic Editor quite frequently. Just to let you know that there is at least one customer who appreciates this feature.
The editor mode is not stored within the preset. From my point of view that’s a good thing. I don’t want to have to switch the editor mode every time I switch a preset. That would be unnerving.
Hi Johnny, that’s great. Who knows now that I know there is another door to open I might even find some benefit myself. The unnerving part for me was not knowing what happened and how to get out of it! But fortunately I figured it out. I think the Plugin Editor was the last thing left to try.
I’m actually feeling good today now that I know about this rabbit hole and thanks to @Dtgtrman78 I know how to keep my plugin windows from disappearing. Lessons like these at least tend to stick.
I think Cubase is quite rich of features that might look very dumb to some and brilliant to others.
It helped me when I changed my mind set from “wtf is this crap” to “I wonder who might find this useful”. From a condemning attitude to an inquisitive one. Not saying that you are like I was but maybe the lesson that I learned can be of help in some way.
