I don’t see an option to make the default position of tuplet brackets to always be above the notes, unless there are two voices, in which case if the lower voice also had tuplets, the bracket would be placed below the stem. Does that option exist in Dorico? I know it can be done manually in the Properties Panel or in Engraving Mode, but doing that, especially when there are several instances, is unreasonably time-consuming.
On that note, I’d like to suggest that in Engraving Options, there also be an option to specify that in the case when all tuplets are under a beam, there should not be a bracket, which would be redundant, along with the option to allow tuplets inside the staff.
One more tuplet issue I just now discovered. In Engraving Options > Repeated Tuplets, I opted to “Hide ratio and bracket” after approximately a measure and a half or so. This works fine for notes under a beam, however for un-beamed tuplets, such as quarter note followed by an eighth note situation, I want to tuplet bracket to remain throughout. Keeping the “Hide ratio and bracket” option, how do I force a bracket on those quarter note-eighth note instances? I didn’t notice it in the Properties Panel when I highlighted those notes.
Thanks for the reply. The problem with that is that all tuplets, including those underneath beams (with stems up) are now above the noteheads, which of course is not doable. I want only the "un-beamed"brackets to be placed above the notes. Simple click of a preference box in Finale.
At present it only exists for vocal instruments (in the Placement section of the Tuplets page of Engraving Options), but it has been requested before that this should be extended to all instruments, and this is on our backlog for the future.
Dorico already does this by default, of course. The case that it doesn’t handle automatically is the more controversial case of a tuplet whose duration matches a secondary beam group. We are considering whether we should add an option for this in a future version.
This has likewise been requested before and is also on our backlog for future versions.
See “Tuplet 1” attached. Notice on beat 1, there are two voices, both having tuplets, which are directly under or over the beam. (Although I prefer that there shouldn’t be numbers on both upper and lower beams, which is not only unnecessary, but also takes up too much space, I wasn’t able to hide one. Advice on that?) To the point, when I did as you suggested and selected all > filtered tuplets, then set the property to be above, the tuplet number that was sitting under the beam of Voice 2 was now on top, colliding with Voice 1. (See “Tuplets 2”) Notice also the 16th note triplets on the staff below. The number was correctly under the beam, but now appears above the notepads, which, of course, is incorrect. The point is that ALL numbers and brackets were now placed above the notes. Hope that clarifies.
