Tuplet confusion

When entering a triplet, I know that I first enter the base duration, and either tap the tuplet button on the left, or colon to bring up the little input window (I will remember what it’s called) and entering a 3. No problem. According to the videos, a tap on the semicolon key should dismiss the tuplet after I’ve entered the notes, but that doesn’t seem to work for me. It brings up that entry window again. What am I doing wrong, this time?

Shift+; is what will exit Tuplet mode, or move the caret.

Mike, I’ve also found that it may be helpful to type, say, 3:2e or 5:4q etc in the popover to avoid having the tuplets have the wrong extent/duration or even get duplicated in the next measure. I had a few speed bumps early on in which I’d create a tuplet but the duration was not what I assumed it would have been, and there was a tuplet bracket duplicated in the next measure without my having entered notes. If I deleted the empty tuplet, that unfortunately deleted the marking I had wanted in the prior measure; they were linked. Realizing that somehow I had erred on the tuplet duration made the difference and moving forward, I always specify the duration in the popover, which is similar to how it was in the tuplet dialogue in Finale.

It worth mentioning that tuplets can be nested, so whilst “in” a tuplet, you can create another one, either by pressing ;, and then you can exit whichever level of tuplet-ness you’re currently in with Shift ;.

The same process is true for Slurs – if you’re entering slurs within Note Entry, you can turn on a slur with S, and enter notes under that slur; then end the slur with Shift S. You can also do nested slurs by pressing S while already in a slur.

I think there’s something else which also follows the “button turns it on; same button nests another one; and Shift-button takes you out” method, too…

Thanks, men. The key=on, shift+key=off is good to know. I’ll look for other places where that might work.
