Tuplet number logic?

in the clip I move the tuplet number one space down, and it moves a bit to the side by itself. How come? What is the logic here?

When you nudge a tuplet number, whether you do it with the keyboard or drag it with the mouse, both the horizontal and vertical positions become overridden, even if you don’t drag the number horizontally. Dorico applies an automatic horizontal adjustment to the number when the tuplet digit has its default position in order to produce an optically centred result, and when the position is overridden, this automatic adjustment is removed.

This explains it… but why is it designed this way in the first place? Why not calculate the override position as an offset value to the optical placement?

I couldn’t say, but rests behave the same way, probably for the same reason. When you toggle a placement property, all values are reset — including the overrides contained in the default placements, so the objects move even before you enter a value.
