I thought I saw some video say a way to turn inserts off for non-focused tracks, but leave them on for the currently focused track, so asio guard wouldn’t be hit so hard. I’ve found how to disable other tracks, but is that the only way?
How about “freeze”?
That still has to be done a track at a time, as far as I know. Disabling them is faster, but I thought I saw a solution that was single click somewhere. Can’t find the source of my memory, and can’t find anything in the ui.
Or is there an option to disable processing on muted tracks? I don’t understand why Cubase doesn’t automatically do that, and that is the real root of my issue. (Sidechaining?)
Yes, disabling is indeed faster, as long as you don’t need the audio. An option to automatically render effects to a “frozen” state might be helpful but would have rather obvious side effects.
I don’t know of any way to automatically handle either approach.
There is an option in Preferences->VST->Plugins to suspend processing if there’s no audio for VST3 plugins.
What does it take to fulfill the ‘no audio’ test? I toggled the setting, soloed a track, and it made no difference. But manually disabling the other tracks did, so the purpose of that setting is beyond me at my knowledge level.

I have no idea - I have it turned off!
It was off - I toggled it on, and no difference! I’ll take a stab at automating disabling and re-enabling muted tracks - that seems to be the best option at the moment.

You might want to try restarting the program after the change to verify if the setting takes effect. Probably uneventful but may be worth a try.
Yeah, that didn’t change anything. Wonder if this is a bug in Cubase? But I was able to figure out the PLE, and get two key commands to disable muted tracks, and enable disabled tracks working. So back to work, more efficiently.
