Tutorial: Syncing Dorico 5 with Ableton Live via Logic Pro (TXL Timecode + IAC Driver)

Hi everyone,

I spent quite a bit of time figuring out how to sync Dorico with Ableton Live for composition work, and wanted to share what I learned in case it helps others.

The Setup: Dorico 5 (master) → Logic Pro 12 (relay) → Ableton Live 12 (slave)
Why Logic as a bridge? Ableton doesn’t respond reliably to Dorico’s MTC directly, but Logic handles it perfectly and can forward the timecode to Ableton via MIDI Clock.

What the tutorial covers:

- Creating two IAC Driver buses on macOS

- TXL Timecode Plugin setup in Dorico

- Configuring Logic Pro to receive and relay MTC

- Setting up Ableton Live to follow transport

- Framerate matching and troubleshooting

This workflow is great for composers who:

- Write/orchestrate in Dorico

- Want Ableton following for live recording or electronic production

- Need DAWs synced with one transport control

Has anyone else tried this setup?

Cheers,
