Two questions / edge cases regarding repeat (endings)

After my first two weeks wrestling (not fighting) with Dorico as another Finale refugee the impression is very positive but I already ran into two edge cases.

  1. Assuming we have a typical Menuetto pattern, two parts, both are repeated, then a Trio repeating its first part. At the end of the Menuetto there is a first ending, a second ending jumping to the Trio and a third ending with Fine.

    I figured out that you can edit the Repeat Jumps, but how can I write “To Trio” without the Coda sign and have a final barline at the end of the third ending, the Trio will start on a new system. It seems to be impossible to have a final barline and a start repeat at the same position.

  2. It’s pretty hard to write a tie and a slur simultaneously in a repeat ending. Isn’t there really no other way as to fake l.v. ties and slurs to “uninvolved” notes and adjust them in Engrave mode? Come on Dorico, you can do it better! :wink:. But what happens if there is no other note nearby, in my screenshot fortunately I could attach the slur to a note in one of the staves below.

I’m aware that the first issue is very rare, but the second one is a common notation convention.

Playback is not important.

Unfortunately, that’s how it stands currently. Indeed Dorico can do better, and no doubt will when they get this kind of repeats-functionality working.

To get a final barline after the third ending, select the start repeat barline at the beginning of the Trio and set the Barline at end of system property to Final.

@johnkprice Brilliant, thank you

Yes, this is a bugbear of mine too, and playback is important to me too. The Dorico team are well aware of this one.
