I have Dorico Crossgrade (migrated from Finale in September 2024). Installed that on a desktop PC and have basically enjoyed it. In two weeks, I need to travel and must be able to continue to work on scores. So yesterday I bought my very first laptop, just for this purpose.
But dang, installing Dorico on a second device has been an absolute nightmare. I keep being dragged in circles. “Steinberg Activator.” “Steinberg Download Assistant.” The software itself (it looks like there are a dozen or more versions).
Eventually, I found a way to install the first version of Dorico listed, which was apparently Dorico 6. Not what I originally purchased, but I figure I would just be prompted to upgrade. Nope.
Now I toggle between “No license found” page and “This Code is activated elsewhere.” Completely a circular disaster.
Is there anyone out there who can help me get Dorico installed on my laptop?
first of all you should find out which version of Dorico you purchased. You can look your emails, or you sign in into your Steinberg.net account from a browser (clicking on the little person icon on the upper right) and see under Products which licence is active for which product. (If you installed by mistake a more recent version, you can uninstall it.)
Then from the Steinberg Download Assistant app, expand the My products panel on the left: you should select the version that you purchased and install all the components that you will see in the right panel (click install all again, to be sure) .
Now to be sure that the license is activated on your new computer, lunch the Steinberg Activation Manager app, login into your Steinberg account, click on the refresh icon (the two circular arrows), and it should show the same licenses as in the browser: activate Dorico there. Then you can lunch Dorico.
So, yes, I did confirm that I originally had Dorico 5, so I uninstalled Dorico 6 and installed the correct version. However, under “my products,” nothing shows up. This is where I just get stuck, because if I try to put in my code from the original installation, it tells me that the code is being used elsewhere.
So, despite being logged in, there is nothing on “my products” or “my account” to indicate that I ever purchased Dorico 5.
In the Steinberg Download Assistant you can click on All products, then Click on Dorico, and you will find all versions there: click on Dorico 5 and then, from the right panel, install all the packages (until you see the green bars).
Did you checked your account in the browser? If the license is present there, follow the next step: did you open the Steinberg Activation manager app? (as I suggested above). There you can log in and activate the license for Dorico 5 (possibly you need to refresh clicking on the circular arrow icon).
Jacqueline, there is one thing that you might check: go to the email of your purchase back in September 2024. Have a look, to which exact email it was sent. If you use more than one email, that’s crucial. Now use exactly that email address to log into your Steinberg account in the browser.
Explanation: it can happen, that you unintentionally have setup two My Steinberg accounts…
That was it! That was the trouble. After I logged in with that old email address associated with MakeMusic, everything just worked slick as snot on a doorknob.
