Un - link text to notes

I’m working with an imported mxml file that has several text entries. They are all linked (anchored) to notes in the staff. They are making a mess of the layout, stacking on top of each other, etc. Sorry to be a newbie, but how can I de- link them so I can put the texts where I want them? Like some should be under the staff, some should be instructions placed under the lead sheet score, etc.

Where would you like them to show?

Maybe you’d better don’t import text at all and enter it manually at the place you want?

Can you show us what is going wrong?

Try selecting the text, and then in Engrave mode, switch off the Avoid collisions property in the Properties panel.

Both texts anchored to above the staff, and they displace the coda, which makes a mess of the layout. You can see the fine yellow line. I need them to be underneath, as the original is.

With the text item selected, press F to flip it below the staff.

Thanks - but no way to untether the text to the note or measure?

Text has to be anchored to something. Staff/system text are attached to a note; text frames are attached to the page (and I think would be the wrong choice for this).

If it helps, you can select a text item, and in Engrave mode, in the Properties panel, you can turn off its Avoid Collisions property. This basically removes the text from all spacing considerations.

Note that you need to turn the toggle on, to indicate an override, but then leave the box unchecked.

You could also set up a paragraph style that has Avoid Collisions turned off by default, but then you’d have to manually assign this paragraph style to all of your text items. Or you could turn off Avoid Collisions on the Default Text paragraph style, but then that would apply to every text item in the piece, which may not be desirable.
