Unable to export as mp3

All of a sudden I cannot export a new dorico file as an mp3. I get the following error message: The destination folder exceeds the maximum path length allowed by the operating system. I then tried to export an older file that I had already exported sucesfully as an mp3. It produced a file, but the file was ‘jiberish’. I could use a little help sorting this out. Cliff K

The “path length” will include the full name of all the folders/subfolders where you’re exporting the MP3 too - is it possible that these have changed? Are you exporting to a new location, for example? Does it work if you export to, say, your Desktop?

Hi Richard, thanks for replying. I did try saving to desktop & other locations, but had the same problem. I did notice that when dorico tried to export it combined both the flow name and the file name as one (+the folders in the path). That effectively doubled the size of my filename. I renamed the flow and file name to 2 words each and then did the export with no problem. I’m not sure why dorico did what it did, but the problem seems to be solved. Thanks again for your input…Cliff K

Hi @suecliff, the maximum path length is defined by the operating system; on Windows.that is 260 characters. It’s definitely necessary to stick to that limit, so please be aware. For Mac the limit is 1024 characters for the whole path but just the filename may not exceed 256 characters.

Good to know, thank you. I’ll file that info …cliff k
