Unable to Force Duration when removing rests

I can force the duration of the lower voice in bar 16 of the soprano part to be a half note, but as soon as I hide the quarter note rest on beat 4, it reverts back to being two tied quarters. I tried hiding the rest by using the “ends voice” feature in the properties panel instead, but am still running into the same issue. How can I both force the rhythm and hide the quarter rest?

Strange, could you share the project or just the two bars?

Could you use this Library->Notation Options->Note Grouping setting instead?

The note grouping setting did resolve the issue, however, I am working in a multi-flow document and would rather not have this be the default setting throughout. Here are the two bars:

It works here. When you select a tied quarter note and press O for force duration. Then you have press a shorter note value first, so 6 then 7.

Interesting! I was attempting to fix by forcing duration in note input mode, rather than by selecting the note in question. Will use your method going forward - thanks!
