Unable to fully download Dorico

Hi.
I’m new to Steinberg and Dorico.
I’m trying to install Dorico Pro 5 on an HP Windows 11 laptop. The Steinberg Download Manager will not open for some reason. I downloaded Dorico without the DM and the following warning apears,

"An essential component used by Dorico for playback has not been found.

This component is installed by the Dorico application installer. Please quit Dorico, run the Steinberg Download Assistant, and reinstall the Dorico application installer."

Can anybody help, please? Many thanks in advance.

Welcome on board Dave!

To get for sure all you need, Download Assistant is important: try first to re-install it from Steinberg Download Assistant | Steinberg and solve the issue that prevents it to work.

The message tells you what important component is missing?

I would say the first three are important, but only the first is required…

Hi Alberto.

Thanks for the reply and welcome! At the moment I can’t see what the issue is with the installer but I’ll keep plugging away. The playback component is missing.

Regards,

Dave

Dave, welcome to the forum. Please do Help > Create Diagnostic Report from within Dorico and attach the resulting zip file here. We should be able to see which files are missing.

Sorry it’s taken so long to reply. Here is the zip file.

Is there anyone at Steinberg willing to help, please? I know I took a long time replying and I apologise for that but I’ve been ill and off work for two months.

Many thanks,

Dave

It looks as if the content that’s missing is the HALion Sonic Selection. If you’re still unable to run Steinberg Download Assistant (which is worth another try: try manually installing the latest version from here), go to this page:

and download and install again these two items:

  • HALion Sonic 7.1 · VST Instrument
  • HALion Sonic 7 Content for Dorico Pro 5

Then try running Dorico again and see whether you still get the same warning. If you do, please create a new diagnostic report and attach it here.

Note that Dorico 5.1.70 is also now available, and you could download and install that from the same page while you’re there.

Whilst I’m downloading the HaL sounds to see if that works, Steinberg Download Assistant failed again. Why would this happen? Why is it so difficult to get this to operate? This is beginning to do my head in.

Here we go again… I downloaded the updated Dorico 5.1.70, the HALion Sonic 7.1 VST Instrument and the HALion Sonic 7 Content For Dorico Pro.
I still get the same warning when opening Dorico Pro. I managed to open the HALion 7.1 VST instrument but the HALion Sonic Content will not install, though it did download - it wanted me to look for a program to install the Content package.
Maybe I’m being utterly thick but it’s getting to the stage where I’ll be asking for a full refund.
For what it’s worth, here’s the latest diagnostic report.

How is the SDA failing? Do you get an error message?

Indeed, it appears that the sound content is still not registered with Steinberg Library Manager. If you look inside the Steinberg folder inside your Downloads folder, and look for a subfolder called HALion Sonic Selection - Content (recommended), you should see that there are 44 files contained within that folder, all with names beginning either PAT or FCP_SMT and with file extension .vstsound.

Double-click one of these files, which should launch Steinberg Library Manager. A little window should pop up, asking you what you want to do with the sounds: choose Install to Default Location and click OK.

Hopefully you should then see all 44 files disappear from the folder you were just looking at, and when you next start Dorico, it will hopefully no longer warn you about these missing files.

If that doesn’t work, just let me know: we’ll arrange a time to get together on a screen share and take a closer look, either with me or one of my colleagues.

Again, sorry for the delay. That seems to have worked! Thank you for your assistance.
