Unable to input music in Write mode: double-clicking does not show the caret

I’ve been learning Dorico for several weeks. Today is the first time I’ve ever had this problem and I can’t find any information on it:
Write mode doesn’t work in many projects. It first happened on a new project, so I threw it away and tried opening other saved projects. Write mode didn’t work on those either. I closed Dorico, even shut down and restarted the computer, but the problem persists – but not in all scores. Why?!

The problem is that write mode simply doesn’t respond. I double click on an empty measure, or a rest, or a note and nothing happens. I have the arrow selector on, but can’t select any notes. When I double click all the note selection tools in the left panel of write mode turn off. It’s like this score is a graphics file and not even a music file.

I’m using Dorico Pro 5 on a 2020 intel iMac running OS 13.

Is Condensing turned on in that score? Condensed staves can’t be manipulated in Write mode while in Page View, you’d have to go to Galley View to input notes.

Ah-ha! Yes. Condensing was turned on. Thanks for the quick reply!

No problem! There’s also a setting in “View > Note and Rest Colors > Condensed Music”, that’ll make the notes gray if you want.

That’s good to know. I should probably turn that on. Thanks!
