Unable to monitor directly within Cubase Pro 10

Since upgrading from 9.5 upwards (currently 10.0.15), I am no longer able to record without enabling monitoring.

Used to be able to monitor directly (i.e. without using this option). Any advice please?

Focusrite Saffire 56
Mac Pro

Does it mean, the signal is not recorded or that you can’t hear the recorded/monitored signal while recording?
