When I try and open Dorico Pro 5 it comes up with a pop up saying ‘The audio engine is taking longer than expected to respond’ and gives me 2 options - continue to wait or terminate. When I click continue to wait it will wait another few minutes and then terminates itself.
I do have a lot of plug ins but I do not have any other music programs open. Have tried restarting and does not help.
Any help would be much appreciated as I have had the program a few weeks now and have not been able to open it.
Having large numbers of plug-ins does seem to be Dorico’s Achilles Heel, so maybe test removing them, see if it works, and then add say half of them back and test starting again.
If it doesn’t work with the half you added, remove half of them, and test again. If it does work with them, add half of the rest. You get the idea. This the quickest way to find out which ones are causing the problem.
@benwiggy is right with what he says but his explanation is a bit sparse, I’d say.
First you need to know where the plug-ins are to be found:
Mactintosh HD/Library/Audio/Plug-ins/VST
Mactintosh HD/Library/Audio/Plug-ins/VST3
or
C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST2
C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3
Then the idea is to temporarily rename those folders to something different and by that Dorico can’t “see” them anymore. When you then start up Dorico, does it succeed? If so, then one or more of the plug-ins must be “rotten” and in order to find it you follow the half/half strategy as benwiggy mentioned.
In case of doubt or question feel free to ask.
