Using Dorico Elements Version 6.1.10.6078 on MacOS 15.7.3
I’m attempting to create a Percussion Map for the “Standard 1” drum set on my SC-88 Pro. I wrote in all of the names first, and filled in a few instruments and playback techniques. I exported the library, and saved the project. After coming back to it, I can’t figure out how to edit these entries to add in the rest of the instruments and playback techniques. Every time I click on something in the note map, instead of the edit window populating with the name, it stays blank, and if I try to choose an instrument or playback technique anyway, it just creates a second entry for that note, as if I were adding a key switch alternative. This doesn’t happen if I try to edit an entry that already has an instrument and playback technique. Is this a bug? Am I going to lose my work so far and have to choose an instrument and playback technique at the same time as I write in a name?
Here is my screen recording to demonstrate and explain:
This is a bug I thought they had eliminated but maybe the way you made your first entries makes it happen again. I assume it is also impossible to clear the entry (right click on the line and then choose clear) and then make it active again for data entry.
I had it in the past with maps for user added instruments not in the default Dorico list. Some completely filled out entries would suddenly be blank and inactive like yours.
One try you can still attempt is to enter a fully filled out technique somewhere else in your map preferable on a cc number not used for your actual techniques and then copy and paste it to one of the none active lines. This might work. It sometimes did in the past without creating a second line for the pitch cc number.
Otherwise the only option I ever found, except just deleting the whole map and starting afresh, is to edit the percussion map file with a text editor and delete all inactive pitch lines. A complete entry for a simple technique looks like this:
You have to delete all lines shown above for the blocked cc numbers in your map and then save the corrected map. This done the pitches should be available again for entries using the PM editor in Dorico. Alternatively you can of course also make the entries in the text editor manually but then you really have to know the exact format.
Best do this in a copy of the original percussion map file and only delete the original when the corrected one works.
Thank you, mavros! That is correct, it’s also impossible to clear these entries. I decided to create a new percussion map and just fill in the instruments I was actively using in my project for now. I did end up looking at the text of the map file; it’s nice that it’s in a format that’s intelligible, but yeah.. without knowing the exact instrument entity ID, I didn’t get far.
If you have already a lot of entries which work but just 1-2 which block, deleting manually is a good option to avoid having to start all afresh. Deleting the block as shown above does the job.
