I keep getting the error that I’m not allowed to watch the tutorial videos in the online manual because I’m not “signed in.” I got there by clicking the link in the Help menu while running the app. There’s no way to “sign in” visible from the manual pages. WT?
Where do I sign in??
Maybe you can try to sign in into your Youtube account, on a new tab/window of the browser you are using? (sorry, don’t know if this is helpful, as I never saw this error)
I’ve seen that on embedded YouTube videos on other sites, so it’s a YouTube thing, rather than a Steinberg one.
It went away after doing something – possibly visiting YouTube in another tab; possibly just reloading the page.
My side gig as a web guy suggests to me that it’s an issue of how the permissions are set on YouTube, there being various levels of restriction permitted. Given that Steinberg is the party posting the videos, then that does put it in their lap. It’s possible to allow unrestricted embeds in the YouTube permissions. The reference to “our community” suggests there’s a permissions setting on the Steinberg site as well.
Anecdotally, Youtube seems to have started blocking a VPN I sometimes use, just in the past couple of weeks. If you’re using a VPN, try turning it off or using a different one (or even just a different server).
No, not using a VPN…
For a few weeks recently YouTube videos embedded in NY Times articles were unplayable for me – but it appears to be working again now.
(Being signed in to YouTube in other tabs doesn’t apply to embedded videos – I still watch those anonymously.)
There are no embed restrictions placed on the videos on our YouTube channel. I’m afraid I don’t think this problem is due to anything we’ve configured in YouTube ourselves.
