This might be the wrong word to use, but I am trying to move a shift-x text around modestly and it is chained to either the top or the bottom of the notes. Any way around this?
I don’t think so. It needs to be attached to something - otherwise if the score changes (say a few measures move to the next page/frame), your text would remain where it had been set. I would imagine - and I could be wrong - that the text is where it is for a reason, hence it being anchored.
You can move its ‘anchor point’ in Write mode, using Alt Left/Right, along the duration grid (like everything else).
You can adjust its position relative to its anchor in Engrave mode, by dragging it.
You can disable collision avoidance for text items, which means Dorico essentially ignores them when determining the positioning of nearby items. This can be helpful when you end up moving text items away from their original position.
