Unclear how to implement Pedal Line properties with "sim." instruction

I’m working in Dorico (full version) on pedal notation and having difficulty implementing pedal line properties. While I can see the Pedal Lines properties in the Properties panel (with options like “Continuation type,” “Sign appearance,” and fields for “Text” and “Continuation text”), I can’t figure out how to:

  1. Properly add “sim.” to a pedal marking that should change each bar
  2. Understand which text field (“Text” vs “Continuation text”) should be used for “sim.”
  3. Determine if this is the correct method vs. using Shift+X for text entry

I’ve tried adding “sim.” in both text fields but am unsure of the correct implementation. I found some topics discussing this but it’s still really unclear for me.

Could you please provide step-by-step instructions for the correct way to implement bar-by-bar pedal changes with “sim.” notation?

Welcome to the forum, Bart. I’m not quite sure what you’re after: do you want to show “sim.” just in the bar following the first pedal line? If so, I would recommend simply using Shift+X text in the first instance.

If I want the pedal pattern to continue, I duplicate the pedal lines for every measure and then hide the pedal indications when I introduce the sim. indication via text or via a custom expression set to “do nothing” (a custom playback formula).
