Understanding Swing ratios and rhythmic feels

Hello,

Could someone help me to understand correctly this concept. Obviously Im not correct in my interpretation.
For example:
2:1 swing 8ths (fixed)

Extends the first note in a pair of eighth notes to be twice as long as the second,:
my interpretation:

  • first note: 1/8th note
  • second note: 1/8 note
  • first note: 1/8th note + first note: 1/8th note = 1/4 note
After this wrong reasoning I get lost

Could any one set me straight.
Thank you so much

creating a strict triplet 2:1 ratio. This is also known as a “triplet swing”. This ratio is maintained regardless of the tempo by default.

The 2:1 swing 8ths (fixed) setting turns

into

(regardless of tempo) so your reasoning was almost there already. Similarly, the 3:1 swing 8ths (fixed) turns those same eighth-notes into

still, regardless of tempo. The non-fixed swing settings however take tempo into account, going past 2:1 in slow tempos to almost 1:1 in the fastest music, which more accurately reflects real-world practice.
