There is what seems like a playback glitch that always happens in this type of situation: Fermata in all voices, but some voices are tied from the previous measure, and some change their note at the point of fermata. In this string quartet example, slurred notes in the 1st violin, tied notes in other voices. The resulting playback glitch is that the new note under the fermata sounds longer than the tied notes, creating a sloppy ending. In Play mode, all notes are showing the same ending point. Is there a simple fix? I am using the latest Dorico and NotePerformer on Windows. Thanks in advance!

In Write mode, try nudging the “a tempo” to before the tied notes start (you can realign it in Engrave for visual effect)
Thank you, Janus. To make it simpler, I removed all tempo changes. No effect. The new note still lasts longer. Thanks for the idea.
The plot thickens. I did as you suggested. The glitch is now reversed: The tied notes are longer than the new (slurred) note.

For my purpose, it needs to align without any added notes. As far as I can tell, your new (penultimate) note also lasts longer than the rest. I appreciate it all the same.
What happens if you remove the slur and “untie” the others?

Just did it. Then everything works normally.
So my thinking is this: the calculation for the duration of the fermata is different because the 1st violin’s note is only 3 beats whereas the other instruments have 6 beats. I have no clue why it works the way it does (I would expect the 1st violin to be the shorter one.)
Can you adjust the playback in the “piano roll” in play mode?

My understanding of Hold duration% is that it is relative to the note’s duration, not what has been set for the fermata. That is how I have adjusted it numerous times with success. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I’m guessing that when you re-tie the notes and slur that the problem comes back. I’m thinking about trying something like untie the notes, use force duration on the last note, then apply the fermata. Once that is done, re-tie the notes. (I have no idea if this would work but I’m looking for a way to trick the app into applying the same duration but still give you a proper playback.) Unfortunately, I don’t have NotePerformer for my iPad to test out this idea.

I would deselect the hold duration in properties and leave the hold only as is. What happens then?
