Unexpected Dots on Slashes

Hey All!

I turned off dots on slashes for a 12/8 afro cuban thing in an effort to reduce clutter, and it worked…mostly. Oddly, this one incomplete bar didn’t get the message:

If I extend the slashes to fill the rest of the bar, the dots go away. So it has something to do with the partial bar. Any idea on how I might fix?

I can fake it with slash note heads I guess, but I assume this is unexpected behavior?

Here’s a test case file to mess with:

12-8 Rhythm Slashes, Unwanted Dots Test Case.dorico (594.8 KB)

What if you delete it and pull the one before into the second ending?

Just tried. No luck.

Hi @Candlebane, Dorico has an Engraving option to show or not show dots on compound TS. But also with deactivated dots, it will show dots on Slash Regions that occupy only a portion of a bar, for clarity with the rest/notes subdivision for the remaining beats that are not in the Slash Region

I found out a trick, reducing the slash region to 3 bars, and using a hidden 6:9e tuplet with a new slash voice without stems, to avoid the dots for the last bar of the original slash region in your example:

Dorico file example:

12-8 Rhythm Slashes, Unwanted Dots Test Case-CORRECTED.dorico (671.1 KB)

This definitely works! I’ll probably do this as workaround.

But I take it this is a Dorico bug at default?

I don’t think it is a bug. Probably the Developers wanted to maintain the clarity of subdivision, for partial slash regions (but maybe I am wrong):
